The Giver compares to our society in several ways. One of the most prominent comparisons is the idea of a controlled and regulated society, where individual freedoms and choices are limited in the name of stability and order. Additionally, the concept of a community that suppresses emotions and memories in order to maintain peace and conformity can be seen as a reflection of our own society's tendency to avoid difficult truths and uncomfortable emotions. The novel also raises questions about the role of government and the balance between security and personal freedom, which are relevant to contemporary societal debates. **
