Men historically have held more positions of power and leadership in society, leading to a higher representation in the selection process for awards like the Federal Cross of Merit. This imbalance in representation can result in more men being nominated and ultimately receiving the award. Additionally, there may be unconscious biases or stereotypes that contribute to the disparity in the number of men receiving the Federal Cross of Merit compared to women. Efforts to address these biases and promote gender equality in the nomination and selection process can help to create a more balanced distribution of the award among men and women. **
